After a heavy defeat to Boca Juniors in the Superclásico, River Plate's Juan Fernando Quintero publicly confronted a journalist, defending the coach and the team.

Quintero clashes with journalist after Boca loss

River Plate lost this Sunday to Boca Juniors at La Bombonera in the Superclásico, a defeat that deepened the club's sporting crisis. Juan Fernando Quintero was one of the few to speak before leaving for the team's concentration.

Coach Marcelo Gallardo once again left without making any statements, so the only ones who spoke for the 'Millionaire' were captain Franco Armani and the Colombian midfielder.

Quintero ended up having a tense exchange with a journalist who reminded him that he had suggested the coach had been 'left out to dry.'

'That's your perception. I think you're unprofessional,' the midfielder said, face to face with the reporter.

'Sorry, everyone has their profession,' the journalist retorted.

'It hurt me because I never disrespected you,' Quintero replied.

'Sorry, but I'm going to tell you straight. We have an opportunity, and I hope we win,' the Colombian concluded, in one of the most talked-about moments of the post-match interview.

'And the others even less,' he stated.

'We are not up to the task. No one ever questions the attitude as a human being,' he insisted.

As he made his statement, Quintero seemed to escalate the tension with the communicator. 'My work has been good, regular, or bad, but I would never make the bed for a coach. But digging where there's nothing to dig has nothing to do with it.'
